Windows 98

I’ve been using computers for 25+ years now, one way or another. Windows 98 running on Intel CPU and most likely 64MB RAM if I remember it correctly. It started with playing Minesweeper, Solitaire, Colin McRae Rally, creating documents using Word, then HTML pages on Notepad, then encapsulating all the imagination into PSD files, glueing everything with PHP, pushing into FTP servers and all that stuff. Also customizing how Windows XP looks altogether, matching Winamp skin and so on. It felt so cool having a custom, unique environment.

A Supercar Release Rabbit Hole In August

It started with one YouTube video - a new supercar release. It was the evening of August 13, and it was the Koenigsegg CCGT1.

Then I noticed another one pop up in the suggestions. And one more, and more. So I realized they were raining down one after another, all launched within a very short time with significantly crafted premiere videos. What’s going on right now? Why are all the main manufacturers releasing their new supercars in August? Is it a coincidence, or is there a reason behind it?

Essential Engineering Management Books

Recently one of my friends asked for any recommendations on preparing for a transition to engineering management. Or at least getting more familiar with the role. I wrote down a list of my personal recommendations, and I thought I’d share it here also. Also I need to add that the more you read about particular topic, the more you start to notice that everything repeats and you stop learning entirely new things. That’s why it’s great to read one book, live through it for a while, then read another, catch the repetitions, and so on.

Full Stack Web Development: Part I

Introduction

What is full stack web development? It’s about the broadest range of capabilities a single developer can master. It means working with frontend technologies, backend systems, databases, and deployment tools. The promise is flexibility and independence. The challenge is depth. Can you truly excel across so many domains, or are you spreading yourself too thin?

My story

Full stack web development was relatively easy when I started building stuff on the internet back in 2007-2011.

I am starting to write in public

It’s time to refresh and strengthen my writing skills beyond simple social media paragraphs.

Whenever a random thought pops into my mind, I jot it down in my notes. These thoughts have the potential to be developed into something bigger — like an essay.

So I’m committing to finishing them and sharing them.

Uses
