Recently one of my friends asked for any recommendations on preparing for a transition to engineering management. Or at least getting more skilled in that area. I wrote down a list of my personal recommendations, and I thought I’d share it here also. Also I need to add that the more you read about particular topic, the more you start to notice that everything repeats and you stop learning entirely new things. That’s why it’s great to read one book, live through it for a while, then read another, catch the repetitions, and so on.

Full Stack Web Development

Introduction

What is full stack web development? It’s about the broadest range of capabilities a single developer can master. It means working with frontend technologies, backend systems, databases, and deployment tools. The promise is flexibility and independence. The challenge is depth. Can you truly excel across so many domains, or are you spreading yourself too thin?

My story

Full stack web development was relatively easy when I started building stuff on the internet back in 2007-2011.

I am starting to write in public

It’s time to refresh and strengthen my writing skills beyond simple social media paragraphs.

Whenever a random thought pops into my mind, I jot it down in my notes. These thoughts have the potential to be developed into something bigger — like an essay.

So I’m committing to finishing them and sharing them.
